Hockey

Our Year 3/4 hockey team did us very proud this week when they won the Furness Hockey competition.  The children won all of their matches.  They played against Chetwyde School, Yarlside Academy and Dane Ghyll Primary School.  This is a magnificent achievement and will now mean our team represents Furness in the county finals held in Penrith next year.

We were privileged to have Ollie Carswell from Furness Academy attend our assembly this morning.  Ollie organizes the school games and asked if he could present out team with their certificates and medals.  He then surprised us with a gold plaque to recognize our Sainsbury’s School Games award.

Christmas

We have a very busy few weeks ahead so I have aimed to include as much information as possible about each event but please do not hesitate to ring/email if you have any queries or just want to check details.

  • Lindal Tree Lights switch on

This evening at 6pm, Father Christmas will be joining villagers on the green to switch the Christmas tree lights on and kick start this season’s festivities.

  • Michaelmas Fayre

Pre-School have organised their annual Michaelmas Fayre for Saturday 3rd December at Buccleuch Hall, 11-4pm.  Unfortunately our choir will not be performing as they usually do due to a staff Christmas shopping trip to Manchester which has been arranged for some time.  Please do go and support their event.

  • Christmas Plays

The children are working very hard on their performances and we are really pleased with the efforts made to learn their lines.  You should have received details of your child’s role and any equipment or clothes needed.  We really appreciate our parent’s efforts to provide outfits.  When the children are happy and excited to wear their costume it fills them with confidence and makes a much better performance and experience for them.  However, I would like to stress that no-one should feel that they have to provide an outfit and if you are having any difficulty then please speak to either myself or a class teacher and we will endeavor to solve any problems no matter how big or small.

  • Blackpool Panto

Letters regarding our trip to Blackpool have been sent home this week.  I will post a copy on the school website (in Newsletters) to ensure you can access the details anytime.

  • Christmas Parties

We are changing the organization for our Christmas parties this year.  Unfortunately our hall is not large enough to seat all the children on tables at the same time.  In previous years the children have enjoyed a buffet style lunch instead of their usual dinner with parents providing cakes and treats. This year we intend to hold the parties in the afternoon after the children have had the dinner as normal.  There will be an earlier dinner (11:30am) and then in the afternoon KS2 will have party games in the hall for an hour followed by snacks and treats in class while KS1 will start with snacks and treats and then have their party games in the hall.  Prizes for games, drinks, savory snacks and treats will be bought and prepared by our staff but we would like to ask for a donation of £2 per child. A letter will be sent home nearer the time.

  • Crib Service

The Crib Service has been arranged for Thursday 15th December, 9:30am at St Peter’ Church.  We will be walking to and from church so, as usual, we will be hoping for parent help to ensure we can get the children there and back safely.
