Big Maths Information Evening

You may remember I wrote in September to tell you about Big Maths which is a new maths curriculum that we have introduced this year to develop and embed numeracy skills.  After delivering Big Maths for a full term, we would like to invite our parents into school for an information evening to find out more.

The evening will take place on Monday 13th February, 4:30pm, and will last approximately half an hour.  As all of our parents are invited we regret that this will be open to adults only as there is not enough space in our classrooms to welcome mums, dads and children.  I know that this may cause childcare difficulties for some of you so, if necessary, we will hold another evening in the summer term.

Each class teacher will share information with the parents of their pupils regarding the principles of Big Maths and how we organise lessons.  Teachers will also demonstrate calculation strategies that the children are taught and give further insight into the weekly CLIC and Learn Its assessments and how you can support your child at home.  If you have more than one child in school, you are free to decide which teacher to visit.

Immediately after the Big Maths Information Evening, Miss Stewart will also be speaking to Year 1 parents about phonics and the Phonics Screening Test.  This is essential for Year 1 parents in order to give your child the support they require between now and the screening test in June.

We hope you can join us.

LAMPS Lottery Draw

Well done to the winners of January’s Lottery Draw:

£50 S Gallagher 24

£30 D Rawlinson 291

£20 S Thompson 67

£15 J Bowns 74

£10 S Bennett 43

If you have not already signed up for the LAMPS Lottery then pop along to the office and collect a form.

I hope the children came home yesterday with positive reports of their musical extravaganza.  This year, fundraising from the Friends of LAMPS has been used to develop and improve our music provision.  We have purchased new instruments, subscribed to an interactive teaching and learning platform to deliver music lessons, employed a music teacher to deliver a weekly brass lesson to pupils in Year 3 and Year 4 and arranged drumming workshops.

Miss Stewart organised yesterday’s Music Day to further promote this area of the curriculum and increase the children’s motivation and enjoyment for the subject.  In the morning they enjoyed a Samba drumming workshop, making their own instruments and learning about music in other cultures.  In the afternoon the children were placed in a mixed age group consisting of pupils from Reception to Year 6 and visited each class teacher for a music lesson and also a Samba dance lesson delivered by Mrs Thompson.

I’d like to thank all the staff for their efforts in delivering a thoroughly enjoyable day and also our parents for making it possible with your continued support.
