Extra-Curricular Clubs

There will be a slight change to extra-curricular clubs next term.  Mr Stoneman, our brass teacher has recognized some real talent amongst our pupils and has offered to trial a Brass Club next term.  The trial will last approximately 6 weeks (beginning 6th March) and will be every Monday from then up until Easter.  The club will be open to Key Stage 2 pupils only.  We realize that some of the junior pupils are already registered to attend Gymnastics Club on a Monday but we would still encourage anyone interested to sign up.  If the trial is successful and continues into the Summer term, we will ensure that clubs are timetabled so everyone can attend both.

A letter with permission slip will be sent to Key Stage 2 children during the first week after half term.  If your child is interested, please complete it and send it back into school.

We have noticed an increasing number of children are being dropped off in the school playground each morning and then being left unsupervised.  We have already had to ask children not to play football on the top playground due to reports that children were climbing over the wall to retrieve balls.  We have also had instances of children falling over and injuring themselves whilst playing outside with no supervision.  I must stress that school staff are not responsible for children until 8:40am when we open the school door and they come into the building.  Children should either be dropped off after 8:40am when the door will be open or, if coming onto the school playground earlier, parents should remain with them.

We are now half way through the year and I am very happy to report that the school’s overall attendance percentage is at 97%.  The DFE sets us a challenging target of 96% and all absences whether due to ill health or holidays, impact on this data.  I would like to thank parents for being conscious about attendance and for understanding that the children do miss out on essential learning when not in school.

Last Saturday I was very happy to attend the Coffee Morning at Buccleuch Hall hosted by the Lindal Ladies Charity Group.  They have organised several fundraisers throughout the year and were presenting their generous donations to various groups.  I was thrilled to receive a cheque for £300.

Last year we were also fortunate enough to be given £300 which contributed to improvements in our school playground.  This year we will be using their donation, along with Mr Barnes’ K2B donation of £500, to improve the school garden with the aim of creating a space which can be used more practically and be easier to maintain.

We are so appreciative of all the support we receive but the generosity of these donations really help to improve the provision we can offer the children.  My sincere thanks go to all concerned.

Breakfast and After-School Club

Just a quick reminder that Breakfast and After-School Club provision will now be held at Buccleuch Hall.  This will be at least until the end of this academic when we will evaluate the situation with the parents who use it.

It is essential for all parents to use the Pre-School’s Online Booking System as if a child is not booked in and we have not heard otherwise from a parent, we will be unable to release your child from our care.

Engagement Ring

An engagement ring was found in school this week.  It does not belong to any staff members so we are asking parents and the numerous visitors we have in school each week to check their ring is not missing.  If you do find that your ring is missing then please email school and we will ensure that it is returned to you.  If the ring is not collected by the end of the month we will hand it in to the police.

Our new uniform is now in stock and available to purchase from Identity.  We do have several pairs of charcoal pants and several of the current style sweatshirt in our spare uniform stock so please feel free to look through before buying new.

This week Lloyd (Yr 5) and George (Yr 5) both celebrated their 10th birthday on Valentine’s Day.  Matthew (Yr 4) and George (Yr 3) celebrated their 9th and 8th birthdays yesterday and Abi (Yr 5) is 10 today.  There are two birthdays being celebrated during the half term break.  Evie (Yr 6) will be 11 next Wednesday and Joel A (Yr R) will be 5 next Friday.

We wish you all many happy returns and hope you have a fantastic time celebrating.

A huge well done to Lucy, Lloyd and Will in Class 4who have now moved onto the ‘Ultimate Learn Its Challenge’ having completed all other Learn It Steps. This means the children will be challenged each week to see how many mixed multiplication and addition facts they can answer in a minute.
