Walk to School Week

Just a reminder that next week is ‘Walk to School Week’ where the children will be able to earn stickers for every journey to school that they walk.

Target Readers

Every half term we assess each child’s reading ability and, if needed, identify ‘Target Readers’ who may need further support or intervention so as not to fall behind their peers.  To become confident and able readers and writers, children need to practice reading as much as possible.  In order for the interventions and support we provide to have the maximum impact, children should read at home a minimum of 4 times over the week.  Please check your child’s Reading Diary to see if they are a Target Reader and encourage them to practice as much as possible.

Fidget Spinners

We have had a number of fidget spinners appearing in school over the last week.  Whilst there may be a few children who can be sensible with them and leave them in their tray or bag, largely they just cause a distraction to the learning.  Therefore, we would ask that these are not brought into school and would appreciate your support with this.

SATs – Standardized Assessment Tests

I would like to say a huge well done to our Year 6 pupils who completed their SATs this week.  Like last year, the tests were very challenging but our pupils approached them with a fantastic, positive attitude.  They have made us so proud and deserve every bit of the praise they get.

Year 2 will begin their tests next week.  These are much more relaxed and can be delivered as and when during the whole month of May.  If you have a child in Year 2, please make sure they come into school on Monday well rested as a good night’s sleep at this age makes an enormous difference to their concentration.

Friends of LAMPS

Thank you to everyone who came to the meeting last night and all those who sent their ideas along. In summary:

The plant sale will be on Saturday 20th May. If you are able to help, please contact Jane Smith. We would be grateful for donations for the raffle, tombola and cake stall. The annual Fun Run will be on 8th June. Sponsor forms will be sent home shortly. We will also be providing refreshments and selling raffle tickets at both sports day and the summer concert.

We have also agreed to spend funds raised as follows:

We will continue to support the swim bus for the remainder of the year, roughly £600 in total. Ice creams will be bought for all the children on sports day. Year 6 leavers do, £15 per child. End of year Summer Sports Fun Day, £500 budget. YMCA bus for KS1, plus buses for KS2 trips which are to be confirmed, overall budget £750. Cookery equipment budget £150. Christmas Panto £816. Classroom furniture £2000. Bikes and scooters for KS1 £1000.

The garden area was discussed and although it is under review by school there are no fixed plans yet for how the PTA can contribute at this time. School already have plans for Forest Schools sessions and refurbishment of the toilet facilities and are in contact with Lindal Cricket Club. Future plans are to improve the dining seating for children at lunchtime, invest in art equipment, and look into artist and author visits for September. I would like to thank everyone for their support this year. We will have one final meeting on 10th July. Everyone is welcome to attend.
