Classes for next academic year

We have held our first transition afternoon where we welcomed 7 pupils to LAMPS who will be transferring into Reception in September 2017.  They will continue to visit school each Friday for the rest of this half term.  Because last year was such a success, we have decided to continue with these transition arrangements for the rest of the school.  Today your child spent the afternoon with the class teacher and class mates that they will be with next year.

Lindal Park

We have received a copy of a letter from a concerned resident of Mount Pleasant (opposite Lindal Park).  The letter raised valid issues regarding litter in the park, speeding up and down Pit Lane and also the care of the village in general, particularly The Green.  It appears that the park bins had an increased amount of litter in them.  It is unclear whether this was due to a missed collection or an increase in rubbish generally.  Because the bins were overflowing and contained food items, they attracted vermin and this then caused the litter to be scattered about.    The litter included several paper cups used by our pupils during PE lessons and extra-curricular clubs.  The concerned resident was kind enough to tidy up and dispose of the litter on this occasion, our cups included.  I have asked that children bring in water bottles on PE days to avoid any further incidents of overflowing bins and litter upsetting our neighbours.  Also, the letter stated that the bins contained bags of dog dirt and dirty nappies which had become very unpleasant following the warm weather, so please be aware that this could be a potential hazard.

Fun Run

As you know we had to cancel the Fun Run yesterday due to the wet weather.  We have looked at the forecast for next week in conjunction with the school diary and we will be making another attempt on Wednesday morning.  If the rain prevails and we are unable to run on that day, we will try on the Thursday afternoon.  We will use the text messaging service to keep you all informed.  Please ensure we have your correct contact number and if you have noticed that you do not receive texts/emails from school, let us know as soon as possible so this can be rectified and you do not miss any essential information.

This year we have decided to complete the fun run on the field rather than The Green due to the low branches and the length of the grass.  Mr Procter and Mr Vial will mark out a track to provide a similar running distance.

Letters / Permission Slips

I would like to thank you for the effort made to return forms and slips promptly.  There have been many letters sent out recently requiring permission for events and trips with more still to come.  This just reflects what a busy term this is with so many different activities planned for each class.  We fully understand that with so much going on it is easy to lose track of what is happening each day and what your child needs so please feel free to either ring the office or message teachers directly using their emails or Dojo.

Sports Day

As you will see in the list of dates, our Sports Day this year is planned for Friday 23rd June, starting at approximately 1:15pm.  We are planning to have a practice next Friday morning.  Your child will be in the same colour team they were in last year.  For children new to the school, their team colour has been written on the top of this newsletter.   Your child will need a T-shirt in their team colour for the 23rd but if they already have last year’s, they can be brought in as soon as possible so they can be worn for our practice.  If you anticipate any difficulty providing a T-Shirt, please let us know and we can provide your child with a coloured sports bib.

Diary Dates

These are useful dates for your diary that will be added to each week.  More information about each event will be provided nearer the time.
