Book sale fundraising
I am pleased to tell you that the school council raised
£80 in total through the book sale last week. This is a fantastic amount and will enable them to buy some great raffle prizes for the senior citizens and some resources for school.

We are very proud of our Year 3/4 hockey team.  They went to Dowdales on Wednesday afternoon to play in the area finals and won 4 of the 5 games they played.  Mrs Elliott reported that they played very well and as always they demonstrated fantastic sporting behavior.  Zara Clough won the sportsmanship award as she stood out amongst all others from every school!  Their hardwork resulted icoming a close 2nd which means once again we will be representing Furness in the County finals in Carlisle next year. Thank you so much to Mrs Brettle who has supported the team and helped transport the children to this and various other events.

Improvements to speaking and listening
This year we are aiming to improve the speaking and listening skills of our pupils. Whilst the majority of our children are very well spoken and have no difficulty communicating their needs or participating in discussions, some children lack confidence talking
more formally in front of their peers and especially to a less familiar audience.

At LAMPS we recognise the importance of preparing our pupils for secondary school and giving them the foundations
they need to succeed along the path which takes them beyond our school. Therefore, we are aiming to develop their ability to speak clearly and confidently to others both formally and informally.

We require your support to help us do this. The children love ‘show and tell’ and as wonderful as it is to see them excited about bringing in an item to show their class, they need to be able to talk
about it as well. I have asked class teachers to make ‘show and tell’ time more formal. This may mean that in some weeks children are selected to bring something in or a class may follow a set theme where the children must think about what they might bring in that fits in with this theme.

Please support your child by talking to them about their item and encouraging them to be able to say up to 3 statements about it. Each class will then nominate someone to deliver their ‘show and tell’ in Friday’s assembly where they will
 present to the whole school.

Next Monday is the last swimming session for Year 5 & 6. Year 3 and Year 4 pupils will begin their swimming sessio
ns after the Christmas break.

Shoe Boxes
Many thanks to the parents and children who put a shoe box together this year. I know how busy you are especially at this time of
year, but it is a fabulous thing to do for children less fortunate. We donated a total of 36 boxes this year.

Miss Stewart has arranged for the Phonics Information Evening to be held next Thursday at 6pm. If your child is in KS1 then please pop along as the information and resources received will help you support your child’s reading and writing development at home.

After School Club

I have been asked to inform you that the paid After-School Club at Buccleuch Hall will be shortening their sessions and will go back to finishing at 5:15pm and will commence from Monday 20thNovember 2017.  This is due to there being very little demand for childcare up until 5:30pm so it is no longer economical for sessions to run up until this time.  If you have any questions or concerns then please do not hesitate to contact either myself or Jane Parton.
