In Review

We have had a very productive and successful term, particularly in sport.  Our hockey teams have done very well with Year 5/6 finishing top in Furness and Year 3/4 making it through to the County finals in Carlisle next year where they will represent Furness.  We came 2nd place in the Furness Indoor Athletics Competition, took part in a Tag Rugby Festival, worked with Play Leaders from Dowdales and ‘Danced for Life’ in an organised theme day with a dance coach.  It is no surprise that we were awarded the Sainsbury Gold Mark last week for the 3rd year running!

We also received a certificate for our efforts to encourage and inspire young people in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths).  Our juniors enjoyed their visit to the Big Bang event at Furness College and Class 3 had a very successful trip to Siemens.  Mr Procter took a group of children who excel in computing to the college for a coding and virtual reality workshop and has been working with Fran Ward and a team of Year 5/6 pupils on a Hydro Dynamics project.  This has involved learning about how we use and transport water and then building and programming robots to demonstrate.  The team will spend all day next Thursday competing against other teams in the Furness Lego League – look out on Twitter to see how they do!

We also received the ‘Music Mark’ this week; a certificate giving recognition of our commitment to provide high quality music education.  We have been very lucky to have Mrs Hoekstra back in school working with the choir and they will be singing for the senior citizens on Saturday and at Stavely House next week.  Miss Stewart is organizing for both KS1 and KS2 to perform in the Ulverston Voices concert next year and we have booked a music ensemble to perform Carnival of Animals so there is lots more to look forward to.

We are very proud of our rich and varied curriculum.  Every class has participated in at least one school trip this term which has linked to their topic and we have had a number of visitors into school too.  The Lego Man was a big hit back in September and more recently, Class 4 had Geography themed day which was delivered by an outstanding Geopgraphy specialist from the University of Cumbria.  Christina Bravery, a parent and very talented artist, worked with Class 2 and helped them produced some fantastic prints which they are very proud of.  We are very appreciative of her support.

This is all in addition to implementing SAFE maths and Read Write Inc Phonics!  We have had a very busy few months and are planning even more exciting learning opportunities for next term.

Raffle Tickets

Thank you to everyone who has sent in money for raffle tickets.  The Christmas Raffle is always very successful largely due to the fantastic prizes that are donated each year.  We have 2 hotel stays, tickets to the Cocoabean Workshop, a hamper, a £25 voucher for The Stagger Inn, a 3 day pass for La Vida Yoga and many more.  If you would like to be in the draw then tickets and money must be returned to school on Monday.  If you’d like to donate any items for the hamper then these would be very much appreciated.  Thank you.

Extra-Curricular Activities

There will be NO clubs at all next week.  Also, the activities on offer will change next term.  Please see the timetable on the school website to see what clubs your child will be able to attend.  A timetable with permission slip will be sent home in the week commencing 8th Jan and clubs will then begin from Monday 15th January.
