Thank you

On behalf of myself and the other staff, I would like to say a huge thank you for the gifts, cards and well wishes given at the end of last term.  Your generosity is always appreciated.  I hope you all had a fantastic break and enjoyed some quality time with friends and family.  It has been lovely to see all the children back in school and keen to get back to their work.  We have an exciting term ahead and class teachers have been busy planning exciting topics with trips included.  Their newsletters will be sent home next week so make sure you keep a look out for those to be fully informed of all the details relevant to your child’s class.

Swimming starts on Monday next week for Years 3 and 4.  A letter has been sent home today with further details.

Mr Stoneham will also be continuing his brass lessons from Monday next week so please make sure instruments are brought into school.  We hope you have been practicing!

U Dance

This year Class 3 will be performing at the U-Dance Festival taking place at The Forum 28 on March 27th, 7pm.  Tickets for the evening will go on sale at The Forum on Monday next week so if Class 3 parents would like to watch, please make sure you purchase a ticket.  Further details about the performance (times, clothing etc) will be given as soon as they are made available to us.

Ulverston Voices

We are also very excited to have both KS1 (not Reception) and KS2 performing at Ulveston Coronation Hall for the Ulverston Voices concert.  The KS1 performance is on Weds, 21st February and tickets for this will go on sale at the Coronation Hall on January 22nd for those who would like to go.  The KS2 performance is not until April so more details will be provided nearer the time.

Extra-Curricular Clubs
Extra curricular clubs will begin week commencing Monday 15th Jan with the exception of Mr Procter’s Squash Club which will begin next Thursday.  This allows us time to receive permission slips and draw up registers.  A timetable with permission slip has been sent home today and needs to be returned by Wednesday next week.  Please highlight the club that your child would like to attend and then sign and return the letter. There are some clubs which can only accommodate a small number of children but groups will change after half term.  Any children selecting these clubs will be provided with a letter to confirm when they will attend.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact myself, Mrs Gallagher or even the adult running the club.

Collecting children at the end of the day

You will soon be receiving a form which asks you to provide details of any adults that you entrust to collect your child from school and procedures to follow should there be exceptional circumstances.  We have an increasing number of unfamiliar faces in the playground collecting children and also more instances of parents making arrangements between each other for collection.  Whilst this is great, and we are keen to support any after school arrangements you require, we do need to ensure that your child is safe and with the person they should be with at the end of the day.

Maths of the Day

For this half term, we will be having Tom Lawson in school for the whole day each Thursday.  As well as his usual afternoon session, Mr Lawson will be teaching maths activities through PE on a Thursday morning.  Years 3, 4 and 5 will benefit from this initially with other years groups having sessions later in the year.

As you know, we have moved to teaching Phonics using the Read Write Inc Phonics Programme. On Friday 25th January Miss Stewart will be hosting an information and experience session where Year 1 parents can come along and find out some practical information about the Phonics Screening test and then watch their child in a session.  Reception parents can also attend a session that afternoon to watch their child and also learn a little more about the reading and writing expectations for Reception age pupils.  More information will be sent home nearer the time.

Diary Dates

These are useful dates for your diary that will be added to each week.  More information about each event will be provided nearer the time.
