George Kilty

You may have seen on our Twitter page this week that we are celebrating the success of George Kilty.  George is a very keen cricketer at Lindal Moor Cricket Club.  Last year he was selected to represent the Barrow District Under 11s which was a fantastic achievement for a 9 year old.  We were thrilled to hear this week that he had been invited to trial for Cumbria and after a fierce selection process against some of the best district players, George is now a member of their team.  We are so excited for George and his sporting achievements; we will be following his progress when the games begin in May.

Philosophy for Children (P4C)

Last Friday we invited Gina Mullarkey into school to deliver a day of philosophy.  Gina has worked as a primary teacher, nursery practitioner and an outdoor education tutor.  At present, Gina runs a company called Little Chatters and is heavily involved in delivering training throughout the county in philosophy, thinking skills and global learning.  One of our aims this year is to develop children’s speaking and listening skills and philosophical enquiries is an excellent vehicle for this as well as developing deeper thinking and reflection too.

As well as P4C, Gina will be delivering further training on outdoor learning and supporting us in our use of the outdoor space and thinking about our local and global environment.  There are several websites that provide information on P4C but if you are interested and want to find out more, I can recommend the following page:

We will be having another P4C day on February 22nd to celebrate World Thinking Day.  The theme for KS2 will be ‘Thinking about the world we live in’ and the impact they have on people and the environment.  The theme for KS1 will be ‘Thinking about life on land’ and how we can look after our planet.

Dog Dirt

Pre-School staff have alerted me to the fact that there is a great deal of dog dirt on the path outside the park and leading up to school.  I will contact the council again but wonder whether it should be brought up at the next Parish Council meeting.  I hope to go the next one but if any of our parents are regular attendees, it may be a topic to mention.
