Security

The work to our doors has now been complete and from Tuesday next week both the office door and the children’s entrance door will be secured with a maglock.  There will be no change to the morning and end of day routine.  Parents will be able to use the children’s entrance in the same way as normal.  If you come to school during the school day (and this includes children arriving late after the gate has closed), you must enter and leave via the office door.  There is an exit button placed at height for parents to leave.  There is no exit button in the children’s entrance.  This door will always remain securely locked unless opened by a member of staff.  We hope that you will find this new system trouble free and support us in keeping the children safe.

Cyber Safety

We are growing concerned for our Upper KS2 pupils, especially the boys.  There has been a great deal of talk on the playground about a game called Fortnite.  The game is unsuitable for anyone under the age of 12 and involves animated violence.  The aim of the game is to kill all other players to be the last man standing.  Another concern is that the children play against people of different ages across the world and chat with each other as they play.  There is no function to turn the in-game chat feature off.  This means that your child could be speaking to anyone about anything and will almost definitely be exposed to swearing and offensive language.  We have already seen an increase in aggressive behaviour on the playground and also individuals being unusually short tempered.  I cannot stress how important it is to monitor internet usage as your child could be influenced by people you do not know and certainly would not choose for them to associate with.

Uniform

We have had several pieces of named uniform go missing over the last week or two which is very frustrating for those parents who are conscientious about making sure their child’s uniform is named.  Please check all items of uniform over the weekend to ensure that your child has not brought someone else’s home by mistake.  I have spoken to the children about taking more care of their belongings and being more proactive in organizing themselves.

Mrs Teare

We are very excited for Mrs Teare, our lunchtime server, as she is expecting her second child this summer.  However, we are also quite sad as it does mean that she will be leaving us at the end of this half term.  Mrs Teare has been a fantastic addition to our staff team and will be greatly missed.

Consequently, we are now looking for someone to fulfil this role.  Mrs Teare has been responsible for serving the school dinners and then packing up the utensils, trays and hot boxes so they can be returned to Dalton St Mary’s.  The hours are from 11:45am to 1pm Monday; totaling 6 hours and 15 minutes each week.  The rate of pay is £8.82 per hour.  Because these roles are notoriously difficult to fill, we are very open to job shares or for someone to take over on a temporary basis to see how they enjoy the position.  If you are interested or know someone who this would be suited to then please get in touch.
