I must apologise for the colder weather this week. Writing about sun cream and sun hats in my last newsletter has obviously been a jinx! We do have some wind traps in the playground and despite the sun shining; it can be quite cold when windy so we will be asking children to wear coats if needed. Recruitment update Having received a staggering 46 applications for the teaching posts advertised, we shortlisted 7 candidates who have been invited for interview next week. The interview process will take place over two days. On Thursday the candidates will spend the day in school where they will be observed teaching Class 2, be interviewed by selected school council members and also complete a written task. On Friday candidates will then be invited back into school for a formal interview. We had a very strong field to choose from and shortlisting was not an easy task. The number of applications received and the many positive comments that we have received regarding the ‘exceptionally well behaved children’ and ‘welcoming and enthusiastic staff’ is a credit to the school and all involved with it. Garden I would once again like to thank the wonderful parents (and friends of parents) who helped tidy the garden last week. The weather was not as pleasant as we’d hoped and there was much to be done but the number of volunteers and the hard work and effort put in by all has really made a difference. Thank you also to Jane Smith for organizing everything and providing refreshments. Rugby Mrs Smith took 8 children from Years 5 & 6 to a Tag Rugby tournament on Wednesday this week and the children had a fantastic time. Luckily the weather stayed dry for them and they played fantastically. They won 2 out of the 5 games played and in those they did not win, they were a stealthy opposition. Thank you to Mrs Langfield and Mr Murray for helping with transport. Uniform Our Tesco Uniform Shop goes live from Monday. You can visit the shop and view the uniform items available by visiting http://www.uniformeasy.com/ Tesco provide affordable uniform items with an embroidered logo which provides another alternative to Coniston and Identity uniform suppliers. Unfortunately, Tesco will provide all items of uniform other than the sweatshirt with the large logo. We have had reports of lost jumpers this week so can I please ask that sweatshirts and cardigans be checked over the weekend to ensure that your child hasn’t accidently picked up one belonging to someone else. Bank Holiday Here’s hoping for some sunny weather to make the most of the bank holiday weekend. As we are only in school 4 days next week, Mrs Foote has asked me to remind you that dinner money will only be £8.80. Also, could all money that is sent in to the office be placed in a named envelope or bag please. Students We have 3 students from the University of Cumbria in school this term. In Class 3 we have Miss Whalley and her specialist subject is sport. In Class 2 we have Miss Baker and she specializes in ICT and in Class 1 we have an early years specialist, Miss Burke. The students have settled in very well and have been made to feel very welcome by both children and staff.
