St Peter’s Church Gala
St Peter’s Church will be holding their annual gala on Saturday 27th June at 1:50pm. As usual the gala will be held on The Green and will include a superb gymnastics display from our talented pupils, the Lindal Mile, a fancy dress competition and music from Dalton Town Band. There will be several stalls including a raffle and the school’s own stall – the chocolate tombola. We would appreciate any donations of chocolates or sweets which can be brought to the office or given to Mrs Smith any time next week. There will be a painted stone competition which I shall be judging so hope to see many entrants from our pupils. The lovely Anya Clough has been chosen as queen and will open the gala after the parade and crowning. I will look forward to seeing many of you there.
I am very excited to tell you that contracts have now been signed and work to create another teaching space above Class 3 will begin on June 29th. The work will be completed by Compass Construction who come highly recommended. I will be creating a page on the school website where you will be able to view plans for the project. The children of class 3 will be relocated to the hall for lessons during this time but we have our fingers crossed for good weather so we can take our learning outdoors.
Year 1 Phonics Screening
The year 1 pupils have now completed their phonics screening with Mr Loughrey and we are really pleased with the results. Every child did their very best and we are very proud of them. The results of the screening will be reported to parents once the data has been submitted to the DFE.
Farewell to the Students
We have said goodbye today to Miss Baker (Class 2 student) and Miss Whalley (Class 3 student). Both have had successful placements and have enjoyed their time at the school. We have fully exploited their skills and interests in PE and ICT which has enhanced both lessons and extra-curricular clubs. We are really pleased that the time they have spent with us will give them an excellent foundation on which to build their future careers.
End of Term Finishing Time
It is my intention to speak to the governing body to request an earlier finishing time of 1:30pm of the final day of term. This has become common practice in schools over recent years and enables families who are travelling for the holidays to make an earlier start and school staff to spend time tidying and packing away resources for the summer. Before speaking to the governors I would like to ascertain whether an earlier finish would be a welcome arrangement or whether it would cause childcare difficulties for more than a few. I have spoken to After-School Club staff about running the club for those who need it but again, we would like to guage what the need would be.
If you do foresee any problems with this arrangement, please do let me know either by sending an email, having a chat one morning or, alternatively you could speak to any members of The Friends of Lamps, who could then feedback to me.

This week we sang happy birthday to Maisy McKenzie-Netherwood in Reception who was 6 on Monday and also Olivia Cooper who was 7 on Wednesday. Many happy returns to you both.
