We have said fond farewells to both Mr Loughrey and Mrs Smith today.  Mr Loughrey has brought so much laughter to the school and Mrs Smith has inspired so many with her passion for sport.  Her dedication and commitment have been boundless…and will continue into the next year when she returns every Tuesday to deliver PE lessons to Year 2 and Year 3/4.

I also have news of another retirement.  We have been very sad to receive notice from Mrs Foote that she will retire at the end of October this year.  Mrs Foote has been a huge part of this school for more than 22 years so you can imagine how difficult she will be to replace.  Nevertheless, the position of school administrator will be advertised on the Cumbria County Council website over the summer break.

Class organization

Just as a reminder, the organization of classes next year is as follows:

Reception & Year 1

Year 2

Year 3 & Year 4

Year 5 & Year 6

Miss Stewart

Mrs Doran (am)

Miss Hair (pm)

Mr Procter

Mrs Hoekstra

Mrs Dalziel

Miss Bleasdale

Mrs Thompson

Mrs Covey

We have also decided to give our classes names next year.  The children were asked to choose a theme and they chose Mythical Creatures.  Names of classes are as follows:

  • Reception  & Year 1 – Pixies
  • Year      2 – Unicorns
  • Year      3/4 – Dragons
  • Year      5/6 - Griffins

New term

The new term will begin on Monday, 7th September.  School will open from 8:40am and finish at 3:15pm as usual.  Children will need to bring their bag, PE kit and those in Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 are welcome to bring in their own pencil case and stationery.

If your child is staying for school dinners then children from years 2-6 will make their own choices for the week each Monday.  Children in Reception and Year 1 have their meal choices made by parents who complete the form and return to school.  New forms are provided when the menu changes but parents are free to change their children’s options at any point.  The current menu will continue into September so existing choices for Reception children will be carried forward.  If your child is currently in Reception and you would like to change their choices then please advise us in writing.  Meals will remain at £2.20 per day, £11.00 for the full week.  Dinner money should be paid to the office each Monday.  If paying by cheque, please make payable to ‘Cumbria County Council’.

If you would like your child to receive a carton of milk every day then you must register with Cool Milk.  This includes all children, those under 5 as well as those over.  The current cost is £0.21 per carton.  Registration can be done now ready for September.  Registration must be completed by Monday evening of the week preceding that in which you want your child to begin having their milk.  Registration can be done by email, telephone or on their website:

Telephone:       0844 854 2913

Breakfast and After–School Clubs will begin on Monday 7th September.  Times and prices will remain the same.  If your child has not attended Breakfast or After School Club, registration forms will be available for you to complete when you drop them off or collect them.

There is a wealth of information on the school website including the presentation slides delivered to the new parents this week which include all of this information and more.

Final thanks

I would just like to end my newsletter with a huge thank you to you all for the fantastic support that I have received since starting at the school.  The contribution that the Friends make to the school is amazing, the staff are committed, hardworking and dedicated to the children and their learning and the children themselves are wonderful in every way.  The past two terms have been incredible but I am very excited for September and looking forward to working with new staff and welcoming new parents.

Have a fantastic summer break and fingers crossed we see some much needed sunshine!!!
