School Business Administrator Interviews

We held interviews last week to appoint a new Business Administrator to take over from Mrs Foote when she retires at the end of this half term.  We had 35 applications and a very strong field to choose from.  The successful candidate is called Susan Gallagher and she is very much looking forward to making a start and becoming part of our wonderful school community.

Friends of LAMPS

Please note that the Friends AGM is now on the evening of Monday 5th October at 7:30pm not Monday 21st September as stated in last week’s newsletter.  We already have two events planned this term.  The Friends are planning a Quiz Night to be held on Saturday 24th October at 7:30pm in Buccleuch Hall.  The cost is £6 per person with up to 4 individuals in a team.  The cost of the ticket includes the quiz and a cold buffet but you are welcome to bring your own drinks.  Money raised from this event will go towards a desperately needed new reading scheme.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

We are holding a Macmillan Coffee Morning on Friday the 25th of September from 9:30am until 10:30am in the school hall. A range of cakes will be on sale and tea and coffee will be served. All money raised will go towards Macmillan Cancer Support. All family, friends and neighbours are welcome. We hope that you can join us! If you cannot join us but would like to support this worthy cause then donations of cakes or raffle prizes would be very much appreciated and can be handed in to the office. Children will be able to purchase a cake during morning break and any remaining will be sold at the end of the day to parents and pupils.

As some of you may know we are a Kisdafe School which means we have a trained member of staff (Miss Bleasdale) who works with children to develop their understanding of keeping themselves safe and the skills and tools needed to protect themselves against bullying, cyber-bullying and any other inappropriate behaviours that may affect them.  We are promoting our links and our belief in the Kidsafe ethos by selling zipper buddies at break times.  The zipper buddies are being sold to raise money for the Kidsafe charity so they can continue to train and support staff members.  The zippers cost £1.50 but we are selling them to pupils for £1 and the school will be donating the remaining 50p.

Pupil Premium

Did you know just registering your child for Free School Meals means that the school gets extra money?  For every child registered the school gets £1320 which is referred to as the Pupil Premium Grant.  Although all KS1 pupils are entitled to a free meal, only certain children qualify for the grant and parents must register in order for their child to benefit from it.

Your child will be eligible for:

- Free School Meals (although the child does not need to take a school dinner)

- Help with cost of school trips and clubs

-Targeted support if they require extra help

Do you qualify? You can register your child for Free School Meals if you get any of these benefits:

- Income Support

- Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance

- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance

- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

- The Guarantee element of State Pension Credit

- Child Tax Credit, provided you are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income (as assessed by HM Revenue & Customs) that does not exceed £16,190

- Working Tax Credit 'run-on' - the payment someone may receive for a further four weeks after they stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit

No one will know you have registered and it will not affect any other benefits you are claiming. Please talk to us about registering your child – contact the school office.

Please can any outstanding permission slips be returned to the office as soon as possible, especially those regarding plasters and photo consent?
