Boxes of Hope

We will be supporting our local shoebox charity again this year.  Boxes of Hope will be collecting gift filled shoeboxes in November to deliver to deprived communities in Eastern Europe.   Representatives from the charity will be coming into school next Wednesday to talk to the children about the work they do and give some details about those who benefit.  The children will bring home a leaflet that day which will provide information and instructions if you are interested in supporting the appeal.

Lost clothing

We have had a number of children who have reported missing items of uniform that have not been found in school.  There are occasions when a child may accidently take home someone else’s jumper or pick up a PE shirt and put it their bag by mistake so can I please ask that you keep a look out at home for any clothing which may not belong to your child?  We will continue to encourage the children to organize their clothes when changing for PE so there is less chance of them picking up another person’s uniform.

Student

We are having a Trainee Teacher in school this term.  Tom Walmsley will be joining us from the University of Cumbria to complete his final placement before qualifying.  Mr Walmsely visited the school in the summer term and is excited to make a start on Monday.  He will be working alongside myself and Miss Hair in Year 2.

Visitors

I would like to thank Peter Bishop for the time he has given to Year 5/6 this week.  Mr Bishop visited the Griffins to share his knowledge of WW2 and describe some of his personal experiences.  The children thoroughly enjoyed his visit as did

Mrs Hoekstra.  Mr Bishop has been involved with LAMPS for some time and although he is no longer a governor, we are still lucky enough to have him come into school each week to listen to readers.

Mr Procter is also busy arranging a visitor for the Dragons.  The children are learning about local history and he is reading them a book, ‘Out of Time’, written by local author, Gill Jepson, who is also associated with the Abbey.  Mrs Gepson is famous in the Furness school community for writing excellent children’s adventure stories which revolve around local history.  Mr Procter has already made contact with Mrs Jepson to arrange a time for her to conduct an author visit to the school so look out for more information from Mr Procter about this.

Quiz Night/Charity Night

The LAMPS charity night organized by our ‘Friends’ is taking place on the evening of Saturday 24th October, starting at 7:30pm at Buccleuch Hall.  Many tickets have been sold and there are still some available for those interested in joining the fun.  Quiz teams can be made up on the evening for anyone who only wants to buy one, two or three tickets.

There is also another social event happening in the village this month.  Lindal Ladies Charity group are raising funds by holding a Fashion Show on Monday 19th October, 7pm.  The evening is being organized by one of our parents, Lynne Satterthwaite.  Tickets are £6 and includes a glass of Pimms and canapes.  There will also be clothes on sale from a variety of high street brands which may be discounted by at least 50%.  Please see Mrs Satterthwaite for more details if you are interested.
