I am very pleased with the success of this term’s first trips for Year 3 and 4 and KS1.  The Dragons were not put off by the weather on Monday and had an excellent time at Furness Abbey, enjoying the gruesome tales told by Ian McNichol and making their own sensory boxes.  The Pixies and Unicorns had an exhausting day at the zoo but were blessed with beautiful sunshine and impressed the zoo staff with the knowledge they already had from learning about animals in their topic.  They adopted a Kangaroo and a Prairie Dog!  Thank you to Mr Procter and Miss Stewart for all the extra work organizing the trips and also to all the other staff and parents who helped on the day.

School Dinners

We have very few children in Key Stage 2 having a school dinner.  Whilst I appreciate that some children may prefer a packed lunch, £2.20 is excellent value for a two course hot meal and, as the colder weather approaches, a hot and nutritionally balanced meal is definitely worth considering.  Copies of the current three week menu are available to view on the website in the Food and Drink section of the Parent’s Handbook and also on the parent’s notice board in the children’s entrance.

 Harvest Festival

The annual Harvest Festival church service will be held next Friday (16th Oct) at St Peter’s Church.  The service will start at 1:30pm.  We would welcome any offers from parents to accompany the children as they walk down to the church.  We will be setting off from school just after 1pm.  After the service, parents are free to take their children home however ALL children will be required to walk back to school and can then be collected from their class once dismissed by their class teacher.

As part of the Harvest celebration, we will be taking donations of food for Barrow Foodbank and the Furness Homeless Shelter.   The Foodbank provides emergency food to families in crisis and by donating food we can help the most deprived families in our local community.  Non- perishable items of food such as rice, pasta, tinned vegetables and cereal can be brought into school on the morning of the service.

 Harvest Tea

We will also be inviting senior citizens into school for Harvest Tea.  Due to having so many things going on in school, we will not be doing this until after half term on November 5th.  So please pass think of any grandparents or elderly neighbours who might like to join us.  More details will be available nearer the time.

 Parent’s Evening

We will be holding our Parent’s Evenings in the first week after the half term break.  The system for booking your appointment has changed.  There will be a list a sheet in the Children’s entrance for each class.  The sheet will display all the time slots available and parents can come into school and select their preferred time.  This will obviously mean a first come, first served basis.  For parents of Key Stage 2 children who may not come into school as often, you may rely on your child booking a slot in your preferred time frame or write a note asking their class teacher.  The sheets will be available from Wednesday next week.
