Hockey Competition

We are very proud of our fabulous hockey players in Year 3 and 4 who won the Dowdales Quick Sticks competition last week.  Miss Hair took two teams and both the A and B team played fantastically and won their rounds.  As a result some of the children were asked to play again this Thursday in the Furness final.  All of the children played fantastically well against the top 9 schools in the Furness area and came second overall. This is a tremendous achievement and means that the children have progressed to compete in the county finals in Carlisle along with Yarlside School.

Parent Governor Elections

Just a quick reminder that we are currently looking to recruit a parent governor and if you are interested then a statement (signed by a nominee) should be sent into school by Friday next week.  If you would like further information then please contact the office.

Choir

Our very dedicated choir gave up their own time last Sunday to sing at the Michaelmas Craft Fair held at Urswick’s Village Hall.  The children sang beautifully and as always they received some lovely compliments from those listening.  Thank you so much to our parents for bringing the children and contributing to what was a very successful event for the Pre-School.

School Council News

Our School Council members have met and made a decision about the colour of the competition kits that we intend to buy with the money donated by Glaxo.  They shared all of their preferences but turquoise was the most popular.  Miss Hair will now purchase a set in various sizes and also some smaller track suits for our younger children to wear when they enter competitions or attend any events.

After School Clubs

There is an up to date clubs timetable on display in the entrance hall and also on the school website.  For a small school with few staff, we offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities which we are very proud of.  With the weather becoming wetter and colder, we have had a number of phone calls from parents to check whether clubs will still be on.  I understand that in the past the routine has always been ‘weather permitting’ however, I would like to reassure parents that clubs will very rarely be cancelled on the day.  No matter what the weather or situation we will always aim to run the club as planned.  This may sometimes result in a different activity or it may be supervised by a different member of staff but we will always make every effort to continue with the expected arrangements.  If there are occasions (such and Parents’ Evening) where clubs need to be cancelled, then you will be given as much notice as possible.

Can I also take this opportunity to ask that staff members be informed when a child will not be attending a club?  In instances where a child on the register does not attend, and notice has not been given, valuable time is taken up by staff trying to ensure that they are where they are supposed to be.
