Dear Parents/Carers and Children,
I am very happy to be writing my first newsletter to you now that I am officially in post as headteacher. I have had a wonderful week and I am thoroughly enjoying getting to know your children. I feel very blessed to join the Lindal & Marton team where I am surrounded by dedicated and hardworking staff who, like me, are driven by providing the very best education for the pupils in our care. I look forward to meeting you all over the coming weeks and establishing a very successful partnership where we can work together to make this already fantastic school even better!
There will be some slight changes to the usual arrangements for coming into school each morning. A member of staff will open the children’s entrance each morning at 8:40am and remain in this area to welcome the children and take any messages. The doors will then be closed at 8:50am and all children arriving during this time are expected to go straight into their classroom where there will be ‘Early Start’ activity waiting for them. This will be a planned activity set by their class teacher with the aim of starting the day in a settled and productive manner. Could I also ask for safeguarding purposes that any parents dropping children off for the Breakfast Club only use the visitor’s entrance to enter and leave the building. Any children arriving late must also use this door.
Swimming will begin on Monday for pupils in year 5 & 6 and will run for 5 weeks with their final session being February 9th. Just to remind you that the cost of swimming is £3 per session. However, Mrs Foote will not be in school for the next couple of weeks due to unforeseen circumstances so, in order to ease the pressure on staff covering her absence, please could I ask that payment is made either in full and by cheque or that you delay making your usual weekly payments until Mrs Foote returns. I apologise if this causes any inconvenience.
Incidences of head lice have again been reported in school. Please be vigilant and regularly check your child’s/children’s hair and treat if necessary. A sensible precaution for girls with long hair would be to have it tied up in a ponytail.
Class 3 children will continue to have an outdoor PE lesson every Thursday afternoon. Please can you ensure that the children remember to bring their outdoor PE kits especially as the weather is particularly cold at present.
I am very keen for the children in Key Stage 2 to experience another residential trip this year which we aim to arrange for the Summer term. As you can appreciate these take a great deal of planning and as I have only just taken up post we are still in the early stages of reviewing the options available. However, I do understand the expense of such trips and would like to give you as much notice as possible. We envisage a cost of around £175-200 for either a two or three night stay. Please do send an email or see me to arrange a meeting if you anticipate any problems regarding payment or your child participating as this will allow me to gauge the practicality of proceeding with planning and booking.
We are very privileged to have Neil Fleming working voluntarily on a new website for the school. Please understand that the website is in its early development with information being added to it in stages. For this reason both the old and new websites are currently accessible but any new documentation or correspondence such as Newsletters will only be uploaded to the new site.
