Dear Parents/Carers and Children,
We have had a very hard working week in school. In addition to teaching in class 3 each morning, I have also been able to spend a little time teaching in class 1 and 2. This is allowing me to get to know the children better and has also given me an insight into their learning behaviours and so far I am very impressed with the attitudes I have seen. The children work hard and are very keen to learn.
As you will know from forecasts, we are waking up each morning to weather warnings. In the unlikely event that school did have to close due to extreme weather, this will be publicized in the first instance on the school website. The Bay radio will also be informed and as well as regular on air notifications, The Bay will also provide details through their own webpage and their social networking sites.
Although we are lucky enough not to have been affected yet by the snow or wind it is bitterly cold so it is nice to see all of the younger children wearing hats and gloves each day. Perhaps more of the older children could follow their example.
Just a quick reminder that year 5 and 6 pupils have been asked to bring various items of clothing in for their swimming lesson on Monday. We did have a few children who forgot to bring their swimming bags this week which meant they had to miss the session. Spare kits are very limited so if you do have any swim suits or swim shorts that your children have grown out of or even old towels then please feel free to donate them to school.
I am aware that parking is an issue for the school, as it is for many located in rural areas, but please can I remind you about not stopping on the zig zag lines directly outside of school and also not using the residents parking space opposite to turn your car around. We had a ‘near miss’ this week and with many of our children walking to school and using the path along School Terrace, I am very concerned about their safety.
I am very pleased to report that Mrs Foote will be back in school from Wednesday next week although she will make a phased return and will only be working throughout the morning. As you can imagine her absence has been felt and I would like to thank you all with your patience when ringing or waiting for the door to be answered and especially to those of you who sent cheques to pay for school meals or swimming. Can I also take this opportunity to thank Scott Bousie and Ruby McKenzie-Netherwood, our fabulous year 6 pupils who have given extra time in the morning to washing and organizing fruit for the younger children whilst Mrs Foote has not been here. They have done a marvellous job and we hope that they’ll continue!
Some dates for your diary but I will add to these each week whenever new events or activities are arranged. More information about each event will be provided near the time.
