Sports Apprentice

I am pleased to tell you that the successful candidate is…..Ethan Vial.  Mr Vial will begin his training with us from May 9th.  He plays a wide variety of sports but has a particular interest in Rugby and Athletics.

Early SATs Testing

You may have noticed in the Diary Dates section of last week’s letter, Year 6 will be completing a Mathematics SATs test on Thursday 28th April.  Our school, along with only 9 others in Cumbria, has been chosen to sit a pre- test earlier so that our children’s scores can help inform the national standard which all Year 6 pupils in the county will be measured against.

It is therefore essential that all of our Year 6 pupils are present that day.  It would be very helpful if they can have an early night so that they are fresh and ready to perform their best in the morning.

Forces Day

As you may know, May 4th is now commonly referred to as Star Wars Day (May the force be with you).  We will be taking advantage of this day by having a range of science activities going on in school relating to Forces.  We would also like to mark the occasion by inviting the pupils to dress up as any Star Wars character.  However, those who are not inclined can simply wear non uniform.

Queen’s Birthday

Each class has been discussing the Queen this week and how she celebrated her 90th birthday yesterday and we are extremely proud that our very own Harry Slater (who shares his birthday with the Queen), had the honour of lighting one of her 900 beacons last night. The actual celebrations for the Queen’s birthday will take place between May 12th and May 15th so we have decided to have a ‘Playground Party’ as an alternative to the traditional street party on the Friday of that week.  This will involve a picnic lunch, playground games and the children dressing in red, white and blue.
