Welcome back to the final stretch of this academic year.  I hope you all had a very enjoyable half term break and made the most of the glorious sunshine we had.

I would like to say a huge thank you to one of our lovely Grandparents who has made a donation to the school.  Imogen and Lexie’s Grandad celebrated his 65th birthday a few weeks ago and a raffle was held during the evening, the proceeds of which have been shared between our school and Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group.  We will be using the donation to purchase resources for the playground.

Lindal Gala

As you may know Lindal Gala will be held on Saturday, 25th June.  Mrs Smith and Mrs Simpson have asked if the school will run a stall and if we would like to continue the tradition of a performance.  The Year 5/6 pupils have decided that they would like to show the dance that they worked on this year and performed at the Forum 28 which I’m sure you will enjoy watching.

The stall which we would like to do is ‘Adopt a Teddy’.  A small fee is paid to pull a name out of a hat and you take home the teddy with that name.  We will need a number of teddies for this stall so if you have any at home that you are able to contribute, we will be very grateful.

It is fantastic to see so many children wearing the new navy and white PE top.  They look fantastic!  We have now had the Coniston Uniform Shop updated with this new shirt and also the sapphire blue competition top which you are free to purchase for your child if they are involved in events and competitions and you would prefer to have your own rather than borrow one from school.  This is not necessary though as we have many shirts that children can borrow if needed.  The link for the uniform shop can be found at the bottom of the school webpage.  The deadline for delivery before the end of term is Friday 17th June.

All uniform items with logo can also be purchased from Identify in Barrow.  We also have basic items available in the Tesco uniform shop.

Transition Afternoons

For the next 5 Monday afternoons, the children will be organised into their 2016-17 teaching groups.  Our new reception intake will join us to ease their transition into ‘big school’ and all other pupils will have the opportunity to work alongside their new classmates on transition activities which should pave the way for a quick and settled start in September.  Year 6 pupils will be working with myself on a range of activities and, because Miss Whyte (our new Year 5/6 teacher) is still busy in her current school, the Year 4/5 pupils will spend the afternoon with Mrs Mason.

Fun Run

All pupils should now have received their Fun Run sponsorship forms from the Friends of LAMPS.  The Fun Run is an annual event that the children thoroughly enjoy.  In the Friends meeting this week we discussed ideas for fundraising projects.  Next year we will be developing our music provision in school.  We would love to have regular whole class music tuition from a music teacher, purchase some Djembe or Samba drums, upgrade the sound system in school and provide opportunities for the children to participate in more music workshops such as their recent morning drumming with Zozo.  If you would like to support this development then please help your child to collect sponsors from friends and family.  Any contribution will be greatly appreciated.
