Lindal Gala

Thank you to all the parents who have donated teddies for the school’s stall at the gala tomorrow.  We have a wonderful selection and I am expecting our stall to be very busy which should result in a very good afternoon. However, I am very sad to have to say that our Year 5/6 pupils will not be performing their dance on The Green as planned.  On Wednesday this week we only had 4 slips returned from children who could attend.  Unfortunately there has not been enough time to re-organise the dance or plan an alternative display with children from other year groups.

We are obviously very disappointed about this especially as the performance has been advertised in the local paper newspaper to help promote the gala.  Community partnerships are a huge strength of our school and it is important that we continue to build on them.  In order to develop our links with the church and show our support to Blossom Howell, the gala queen, I would love to see some of our pupils attend the procession on Saturday afternoon (meeting at the church at 1:40pm) or the Patronal Service and procession on Sunday (meeting at Buccleuch Hall at 9:20am to join the procession from the hall to the church).

This is a long standing tradition of Lindal and it would be wonderful if our pupils can support it.  I will be attending the Patronal Service in church on Sunday with Mr Procter, Mrs Simpson and Mrs Smith and we would be happy to supervise any children who want to attend but their parents cannot.  I appreciate that many of you will already have commitments this weekend.  I am told the service lasts approximately 1 hour so children can be collected around 10:30am.

Mrs Hoekstra

As you know Mrs Hoekstra retires at the end of this academic year and will soon be leaving us.  Mrs Hoekstra has been an enormously hardworking and dedicated member of staff.  The school is well known for its fabulous choir and Mrs Hoekstra has been instrumental in providing the children with opportunities to sing and perform for audiences as well as develop their love for singing.

Mrs Gallagher will be organizing a collection for any parents who wish to show their appreciation and mark this occasion.  Any donations can be handed to the office (or myself at the door) in a sealed envelope with your child’s name written on.  Your child(ren) will then be asked to sign a card to express your good wishes.

School Dinners

Orian, our food providers, have increased the cost of school dinners by 10p because of the national living wage.  Due to careful budgeting, we are in a position to absorb the price increase this year.  However, any future funding cuts or increase in meal costs may mean that the price we charge parents may need to rise.  This will course be a last resort and parents would always be fully informed well in advance.
