Big Maths

Your child may have come home and told you about some changes to the way in which they are taught mathematics.  This year we are trialing the Big Maths Curriculum.  I have provided an overview of Big Maths in the Newsletter section of the website and we intend to hold a parents information evening during the Spring term.  In the meantime, over the next few weeks, look in your child’s homework book for details on how they are progressing in their ‘CLIC tests’ and ‘Beat Its!’

Reception & KS1 Fun Run

Dowdales Secondary School have organised a Fun Run next Friday after school for children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.  The Fun Run begins at 3:45pm and is expected to be finished at approximately 4:15pm.  If you would like to take your child then we would be happy to have them ready in their PE kits at the end of the school day.  Just let your child’s class teacher know.

Cool Milk / Water

This year we have significantly less children drinking milk at break time.  Milk is free for all children under 5 years old and approximately 20p per day for all other children.  Whether milk is free for your child or not, it must be ordered through the Cool Milk website by completing a simple form:  If your child does like milk and you would like them to drink it daily, don’t forget to order it.

Please note, children are also provided with cold, filtered water throughout the day as and when they require it.

Fruit / Tuck Shop

Please can I remind you that children in Key Stage 1 receive a free healthy snack for break each day and this is either a piece of fruit or sometimes vegetables.  Key Stage 2 children are welcome to bring in their own snack but this too should be healthy.  We do not allow biscuits or crisps unless it is a Friday when we have a Tuck Shop.  The Tuck Shop is run by Year 6 pupils and they sell biscuits for 10p each and crisps or a chocolate snack for 20p.
