Friends of LAMPS

Thank you to those parents who were able to attend the Friends meeting today after school.  An amazing £1145 was raised in total which is fantastic, as was the number of prizes which were handed out.  The future fundraising activities will possibly include a Valentines Disco, Prize Bingo and a Coffee Morning at The Coronation Hall.  There is currently over £4000 saved in the account and discussions are taking place as to what this money should be spent on.  If you have any ideas about this or other ways that we can fundraise then please attend the next meeting.  The more parents we have involved, the better!

Mr Napper

We have a new teacher joining Class 2 next week.  Mr Napper has a number of years’ experience and is a part-time teacher at Flookburgh Primary School where he currently works mornings.  Mr Napper will teach Blencathra Class in the afternoons from Tuesday through till Friday. We are very much looking forward to working with someone new.

PE Kits

Today’s weather was bright and dry so the cricket lesson, delivered by Cumbria Cricket, took place outside as it should have done.  However, despite the blue sky it was still extremely cold.  Please, please ensure your child has an outdoor PE kit in school as we have asked.  Jogging bottoms and a hoodie or fleece are essential for outdoor PE in these current temperatures.

Lego Competition

We sent a team of children to the First Lego League competition on Wednesday this week.  The team was made up of Year 5 and Year 6 children and they were accompanied by Mr Procter and Mr Smith.  The children had a great day and Mr Procter was very proud of their efforts and how they conducted themselves.  We would like to say a huge well done to St Bernard’s School who were very worthy winners.

Dog Dirt

Unfortunately, we appear, once again, to have a problem with dog muck in the village, particularly on the road up to school.  We have had a number of children who have come into school with dirt on their shoes which is not ideal at all.  This has been an ongoing problem over the years which has been highlighted by school, pre-school and the parish council but unfortunately it is down to dog owners taking responsibility for the mess their dogs make.  Please be aware and tread carefully if you do walk up to school.

I was thrilled to be able to hand out 6 handwriting pens in today’s assembly.  Well done to Yasmin, Eliza and Juliette for achieving stage 3, to Clio for her stage 2 and to Milo and Max M for being awarded their stage 1 pens.  We love the fact the children take pride in their handwriting and the presentation of their work.

There were also significantly more children in the reading raffle this week so well done to those children who have made more effort.
