25th January Newsletter

New Recruit
I am delighted to inform you that, after our challenging interview process, we offered the position of part-time class teacher to Nicole Erswell. Mrs Erswell lives in Ulverston where she moved to after re-locating from South Africa 18 months ago. She has taught for a number of years and has very good knowledge and experience of working with special educational needs. Mrs Erswell is excited to start and will be taking up her post on Monday 25th February 2019, sharing the teaching of Class 2 alongside myself.

Eskdale Residential
Just a reminder, any Class 3 and Class 4 parents who would like their child to attend this year’s residential to Eskdale need to pay the £19 deposit through Parentmail by Monday 28th. If you foresee any difficulties with this but would like your child to attend then please let us know. After Monday, we will be calculating how many spaces there are so they can be offered to Year 3 pupils. Staff and pupils from Ireleth St Peter’s attended this residential trip last year and gave excellent feedback so I am confident our children will enjoy it, especially paddle boarding which is something they have not done on any of our school trips before.

Inclement Weather
Following the icy and wintery weather conditions we have experienced this week I thought I would remind you of our procedures. On icy days, please only use the Children’s Entrance as the playground and pathway to the office door may be too slippery and dangerous. Driving up the hill and parking may also be difficult so please consider parking by The Green and walking up. Children are welcome to come to school on icy days in their trainers or other sensible footwear. We understand that your journey to school may be delayed due to slow traffic so please just get here when you can and only travel if you deem it is safe to do so. If in extreme cases the school did need to close you would receive a text message as soon as a decision had been made. This information would also be included on our school website, social media sites, both The Bay and Radio Cumbria radio stations and the Evening Mail website. The decision to close school would never be taken lightly.

Coniston/Keswick 2 Barrow Walk
We are very excited to have a team of staff, parents and pupils taking part in the Coniston 2 Barrow walk again this year. We would love to be able to enter a team for the K2B too but need six walkers and so far we only have two volunteers (myself and Mrs Elliott). If you are interested in walking or supporting, then please let myself or Kim Brettle know.
