4th October Newsletter

Harvest

Just a quick thank you once again to all the parents who attended church today and especially to those who walked us down.  It was great to see so many donations of food given.  If you forgot to send some in and would still like to donate, the church will happily receive any items this weekend or, alternatively, you can send any donations to school and I will take them to the Foodbank next week.

Edinburgh Residential

The £36pp deposit for next year’s residential is needed on or before Monday 14th October.  This is to ensure we can book the adequate number of rooms according to the gender split of the group we are taking.  The trip will only be feasible if we receive 20 or more deposits.

Parents’ Evening

There are still a number of slots remaining for our Parents’ Evening meetings.  These can be booked via ParentMail.  If you do have any difficulties with this system, then please do let us know.

Break Time Snacks

Free fruit and vegetables are available to the Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils.  This is provided through the government funded School Fruit & Vegetable Scheme.  Although children in Key Stage 2 are not entitled to the free fruit, they are more than welcome to bring in their own piece of fruit or chopped vegetables for their mid-morning snack.  Please can you ensure that this is all your child brings in.  There have been a number of instances this term where some of the older children, who do know better, are bringing in sugary cereal bars or fruit winders and eating them at break time.  I have explained to the children that this is unfair on the Key Stage 1 pupils and, because we have a responsibility to encourage 5 portions of fruit or vegetables a day, this is the only option.  They are welcome to bring in their cereal bars on Friday when we have Tuck Shop available as a treat for the children.

PE Kits

The weather is becoming wetter and colder but we are still aiming to take the children outdoors for PE as much as possible.  If your child does not already have an outdoor PE kit, they are welcome to bring in joggers and a fleece or hoody (navy if possible).

Lindal Preschool

Lindal Preschool will be running an October Half Term holiday club.  This is a fantastic move to help support working parents in our community.  If you are a regular user of the Breakfast and After School Club, then bookings for half term can be made online.  If you have not used the Breakfast or After School Club before but you are interested in booking a holiday club place for your child, please see Mrs. Brettle who will provide you with details of who to contact.

The Preschool staff are also organizing a Halloween party for the children.  This will take place on Friday 1st November and the time for children aged 5-11 is 6:30 – 8:00pm.
