NSPCC Visit – Non Uniform – Thursday

We will be visited on Thursday next week by representatives from the NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children).  They will be delivering an assembly to both Key Stage 1 and then another to Key Stage 2 followed by a workshop for Year 5 and Year 6; previous visits have always been well received by the children.  The presentation and workshop will reinforce the work we already do in school with our Kidsafe Programme about teaching the children how to keep themselves safe and what to do if they feel vulnerable.

To help raise money for the charity, we will be combining the visit with a non-uniform day.  The children can come into school wearing non-uniform for £1 which will be their donation.

Christmas Cards

Following the success of last year’s printed Christmas Cards, the children are going to be designing their own again this year.  The design will be sent home either on or before Friday 28th September.  On the reverse of the design is an order form.  If you would like your child’s design to be printed professionally then please follow this process:-

  1. Complete the Child’s information section on the reverse of their design
  2. Choose a greeting
  3. Select the products you would like to order for printing on the form
  4. Access Parentmail to pay for your order – DO NOT SEND A CHEQUE TO SCHOOL AS STATED ON THE FORM
  5. Return the design by Friday 5th October

If you have any difficulties then please see/email Mrs. Gallagher.

Parentmail

We are very pleased with how well Parentmail is being used by our parents and that we have had an almost seamless transition.  Thank you to Mrs. Gallagher for all her hard work setting up and using this new system.  If you do experience any difficulties then please don’t hesitate to let us know as it is our primary method of communication now.

Can I also remind parents that the website is a useful source of information displaying the extra-curricular club timetable, the weekly newsletter and also information about events.

Uniform

It is great to see a number of other schools in the area are following us in a move to wearing ties as part of their uniform.  We certainly think that a smart uniform represents the high standards that we strive for at LAMPS.  Can you please make sure your child is coming to school in the correct uniform and that all items are labelled.

Big Bang Event – Furness College

We are very excited that Class 3 and Class 4 have been invited to attend the Big Bang event at Furness College this year.  We focused on our delivery of STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) last year and are continuing to do so this year so it is an important event in our calendar.  The cost of the coach to transport both classes one way is approximately £150.  Therefore, like last year, we will be relying on parents collecting their child from Furness College at 3:30pm.  More information will be given nearer the time but we hope you will be able to support us.

September 7th Newsletter

Welcome Back

Firstly can I welcome you all back to school life with a special welcome to our new reception parents and their families.  We have 12 pupils joining us this year and they are settling well and adjusting to the new environment and new routines.  I would also like to welcome Kara and Clio Linguard, Poppy Bailey, Jake Payne and Theo Morgan to Lindal and Marton school as they have also joined us but in other year groups.  We are thrilled that their families have chosen our school and we hope they are already feeling happy and settled.

Communication

As usual I will continue to write a weekly newsletter every Friday which will contain news on any events happening in school, awards/certificates that are presented, diary dates and children’s birthdays.  However, you will now only be receiving the newsletter electronically.  It will be sent every week via email and will also be available on the school’s website.  We now have a new website which is more tablet/mobile friendly and I would like to thank Neil Fleming for working very hard over summer to create the site; we think it is fabulous!

Class teachers also send out a termly newsletter which gives details specific to their class such as topics studied and class trips.  Look out for these next Monday.  They will also be published on the class pages of the website and these pages are being updated over the next week or so.  The school website also displays useful information such as the Extra-Curricular Club timetable (which is currently being devised) and details on upcoming events.

Extra-Curricular Clubs

Clubs will begin Monday 17th September.  A timetable with permission slip will be sent home next week so you can choose clubs with your child.  If you would like your child to participate in any of our after school activities, please ensure forms are returned with the permission slip signed by Thursday.  If your child is to be collected after an activity by Lindal Pre School to attend their After School Club, they must be booked in.  If your child is not booked in and does not appear on the register then we will be unable to release them without contacting you for consent.  If you have any difficulties with the booking system please contact either Pre-School staff or Mrs Gallagher and we will endeavor to solve any issues.

Swimming

Swimming will also start on Monday 17th September for some children in year 4/5/6.  We have split these cohorts into 2 PE groups and one group will go swimming this term and the other group will go swimming in January.  A letter will be sent home next week giving details for the group going swimming this term.  We are pleased to be able to offer swimming to our year 2 pupils this year for the first time at Lindal.  These lessons will take place in the summer term when year 2 and year 3 will go together.

Building work

You may have noticed that we have had some minor building work done this term.  Our toilets have been refurbished and a stud wall and door installed between class 1 and class 2.  The work is not quite finished but we are very happy with the results so far and pleased that our contractors were able to ensure that we could open on time…although it was very close! Thank you to our neighbours for once again being very patient; we hope you were not disturbed at any point.

Parentmail

As explained last term, we are moving to Parentmail for communications and managing permission slips and payments for trips and clubs (not dinners).  We have been unable to begin this immediately as there are still a number of parents who have not registered.  Please can you ensure that you register so you do not miss any essential information.  There is also an app available for smartphones and currently only 48% of our parents are using it.

Cyclewise

Year 5 and Year 6 pupils will be taking part in the Cyclewise programme next week.  A bike and helmet will be needed every day except Friday.  The children can wear their outdoor PE kits or tracksuit pants but must have their uniform in school to wear when they’re not cycling.  Waterproofs will be needed if the weather is wet.  Bikes can be left at school for the week and I have explained to the children how these will be stored.  If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
