We are looking to recruit another midday supervisor. The hours are from 11:45am until 1:00pm each day and the pay is approximately £7.50 per hour. The role would involve spending the first 15 minutes assisting the serving of lunches to the younger children before spending the rest of the time helping to supervise the playground. If you are interested and would like to hear more about it then please let me know. Even if you, or anyone you know can help us in the short time before the end of term, this would be fantastic.
Sponsored Fun Fitness
We had wonderful weather this afternoon for our Fun Fitness Event and the children did very well participating in up to 60 minutes of activity. We selected pupils from each class to wear a step tracker to see how many steps were achieved and the totals ranged from 8000 to 12,000 so it is safe to say the children worked hard. Sponsor money can be brought into school any time between now and the end of term or paid through the donations section of ParentMail. Thank you so much for the donations already sent in.
Interviews were held yesterday for the position of KS2 Class Teacher to replace Mrs Elliott who leaves us at the end of this term. We offered the position to Miss Laura Shepherd who is currently a Year 6 teacher in a school in Dumfries and Galloway. Miss Shepherd will be moving to Cumbria in the next few weeks, (when the Scottish academic year ends) and she is very excited to become part of our team.
I’d like to say a huge thank you to Mr and Mrs Marshall who organized our participation in a football tournament at St Mary’s Catholic School Summer Gala. The tournament took place on Sunday 9th June. The children won all their games getting through to the semi-finals and were then unfortunate to lose on penalties. Mr Procter, who also attended to support, said the children were a credit to their parents and the school.
On Thursday this week, Mr Procter took a team of Year 5 and Year 6 pupils to Lindal Cricket Club for an all day event. Again, the children played fantastically and got through to the semi-finals but lost their match to Holy Family Primary School by a close margin.
Just a reminder that the Church Gala is next Saturday and, so far as yet, we have had no donations of teddy bears or bottles for the bottle tombola. The ‘Queen’s Parade’ begins starts from the church at 1:40pm and all our children are welcome to take part. There is also a special service on Sunday to celebrate St Peter’s Day and any parents or children who would like to attend should meet at Buccleuch Hall at 9:20am. It would be fabulous if we could support both the church and Grace next week. What makes this village so special is community events such as this and, as we are central to this community, it would be wonderful to have as many children involved as possible.
We have had a suggestion from a parent to consider a ‘Walking Bus’ to help ease the traffic congestion each morning. This would rely on parent volunteers; perhaps those who already walk up the hill each day may be interested. It would involve children being dropped off by The Green (at the point near the bottom of the hill, where cars can easily stop and then drive round) by an agreed time each day and then walked safely up the hill by two or more parent helpers. If several parents volunteered, specific days could be allocated on a rota. If you are a parent who is willing to help then please contact myself or Mrs Brettle.
