Extra-Curricular Clubs

There will be a new club timetable sent out on Tuesday 16th April.  Mrs Gallagher will then create the form on Parentmail for you to complete to select which clubs your child would like to attend.  The extra-curricular clubs will then start on Tuesday 23rd April.

Gymnastics – Winners!

Yesterday we took our Key Steps 2 and our Key Steps 3 team to Penrith where they competed in the County Gymnastics Final.  We were thrilled when both teams were announced as the winners.  It was a fantastic day for Furness as Newton School also won the Key Steps 1 competition.  There were also 3 Furness teams placed in the large school competition which took place in the afternoon.

I would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Elliott who has given a great deal of time to coaching the teams, sending letters, organizing transport and sorting tracksuits etc.  It is wonderful to have staff that are so passionate about what they do that they’re so willing to do so much above and beyond.  Lindal and Marton were given high praise by the competition organisers for being able to sustain the level and success of gymnastics at the school following Mrs Smith’s retirement and Mrs Elliott has certainly done this.  We are very lucky that both Mrs Smith and Mrs Simpson have continued to support the school and have always been available to assist us whenever needed which of course has contributed to our success.

Netball – Winners!

On Tuesday this week Mrs Marshall took our netball team to Dowdales to compete against other schools in the Dalton and Ulverston district.  Unfortunately, due to Parents’ Evening, neither myself or Mrs Elliott could attend but Amelie Ward (Y5) went home after the competition and produced this amazing match report.

Lindal and Marton are reigning champions after the High Five netball competition at Dowdales on Tuesday. Despite being one of the smallest schools in the competition, we still managed to win. When it came to being captain, Daniel showed great leadership and fantastic sportsmanship. Harry and Ezri were brilliant as they worked with the other members of the team. Zara and Grace were extraordinary by supporting us all. Everybody showed great passion and sportsmanship at the end of each match by congratulating the other team players. When things got tough, everybody demonstrated determination, ambition and persevered to help each other when needed. As our players were being marked by the other team, Imogen managed to use tactics to avoid the markers and score multiple goals. Even when Imogen and Daniel were not playing, they showed our players places where they could pass the ball. When it came to footwork, our team showed great honesty and owned up when they knew they had broken the footwork rule. Everyone cheered for the other teams. In the end, their efforts paid off and they succeeded in winning.

Mrs Elliott and I were thrilled to receive Amelie’s report and even more impressed that after a long, and tiring day, she went home and wrote this without being asked.  Thank you for your fantastic work Amelie!

Summer Uniform

Just a reminder about summer uniform.  The girls can wear navy blue and white summer dresses or navy shorts and the boys can wear navy shorts.  Please do not send the children to school in sandals or open toed shoes.  Please can any sun hats be named.  We have a number of hats and glove sets that have been unclaimed so please pop in and have a look if you are missing any.

Just a reminder that Anthony Wright will be visiting us to take the children’s photos on the Wednesday of the first week back.  If you would like to bring older or younger siblings to have their picture taken too then Anthony will be available from 8:15am.
