Business Administrator Role

Yesterday afternoon Mr Goodall and Headteacher of Ireleth St Peter’s, Mrs McFarlane, interviewed 5 excellent candidates for the position of Business Administrator.  It was a thorough process and Mrs Kimberley Brettle has been offered the post and will take over from Mrs Gallagher on the 3rd June.  Mrs Brettle has many strengths and as she is well known to all the staff, pupils and parents, we expect a much smoother transition.

More Sport!

We have had another extremely busy week with regard to sporting competitions. On Wednesday this week Mrs Elliott took our Year 5/6 netball team to Furness Academy where they competed in the Furness Finals.  Our children played exceptionally well and finished 3rd overall.

Mrs Gallagher was drafted in to take our Year 3/4 football team to Dowdales for a cluster competition and they came 4th.  The weather was atrocious but they were brilliant.  Thank you Mrs Gallagher for braving the wind and rain that morning!

I took the second Year 5/6 team to Hoops for another Tennis competition this morning and the quality of the tennis played was outstanding.  We played Chetwynde School in the final and drew, winning 2 matches out of 4, but lost on the number of points scored with a difference of 2.  It was so close and our team were very unlucky.  It gave me goosebumps to watch!

On the subject of sport…our Onside Coach, Tom Lawson, will be working at another school for the coming weeks and we now have Mr Tom Hammond replacing him.  We will hopefully see Mr Lawson again soon.

SATs Week

As you may know, Year 2 and Year 6 complete statutory assessments this month to measure their attainment and progress.  Year 2 have the whole month of May to complete their assessments but Year 6 have to complete theirs to a strict SATs week timetable and this begins on Monday 13th May.  The children will do a test in the first session of each morning.  If you could please ensure that your child is brought on time every day next week, then this would avoid any unnecessary noise at the office entrance, which could cause a distraction.

Sports Day

We will be holding our annual Sports Day a little earlier than usual to ensure we have time to rearrange it should the weather be unfavorable.  We will be doing our first practice next Friday so it would be ideal if the children could have their team coloured T-shirt in school for then.  The children will more than likely be in the same team they were in last year.  There may have to be some movement amongst teams but this will be kept to a minimum.  We will confirm your child’s colour on Monday next week.  As usual Friends of LAMPS will be arranging an ice-cream van for a treat afterwards.  If you can give a hand selling drinks and cakes on the day then please let myself or Mrs Brettle know.

Friends of LAMPS Messages

  1. Sponsored Fun Fitness – this year, instead of the usual Fun Run, we are giving the children a choice of 3 sponsored activities.  They will be able to choose between running/walking laps of the field, a Danceathon in the school hall and multi-skills on the playground.  Sponsor forms for your child’s choice of activity will be sent home soon.
  2. Icy Friday – Icy Fridays will begin after the half term break.  They will be sold on a Friday at 3:15pm for 50p each.  If any parents would like to volunteer to help sell them then please let us know, even if you can only do one week.

Weather

Although the weather has been rubbish this week, we are hoping for some warmer days and sunshine soon.  If the weather is hot, please ensure your child comes to school wearing sun cream.  They can bring their own named bottle to re-apply during the day.  Staff in Class 1 will occasionally help those who struggle to apply it.  They will support them to rub it into their arms, neck, face and lower legs if necessary.
