Lindal & Marton Primary School

LAMPS is a popular and successful non-denominational school in the village of Lindal-in-Furness. The school retained its cherished “Outstanding School” status at its latest Ofsted inspection in December 2011. The staff, governors and pupils at LAMPS are proud of our family ethos, and we value the opportunity to welcome you to our school.

LAMPS offers a safe, caring environment, and provides a wealth of learning opportunities that ensures that each child develops socially, academically and emotionally. We are confident that you will find a community where standards of behaviour and respect for others are given the highest priority; where every child is encouraged to strive to achieve their best, and above all an environment where children are happy and eager to learn. If you have not already done so, you are very welcome to visit the school by arrangement.

Learning, Ambition, Motivation and Perseverance lead to Success.

Hello! We are Linda and Martin, and we'd like to welcome you to our school.

Panto – Spare Tickets
Now that the majority of parents have responded on Parentmail to provide permission for their child to attend the Panto in the last week of term, we now know that we have 13 spare tickets for that performance which we are selling on Parentmail from today. The tickets are being sold at £9.25 which was the price school has been charged and any parents who do want to purchase one will have to make their own way to The Forum. You will however have the pleasure of sitting with the children (your own if you would like) and a free ice-cream!

Thanks
Thank you so much to Kim Brettle who organised the Prize Bingo evening. We were amazed with the total of £1054.80 which was raised and donated to school. We’re so lucky to have so many generous parents and members of the community who have supported this and other events and also given wonderful prizes to this and the Christmas Raffle. We really appreciate it!

Attendance
Whole school attendance for this term currently sits at 96.1% which is remarkable given the number of illnesses that seem to be circulating. I would like to thank the parents that have sent their children in even if they are a little under the weather. If they do have a cough or cold then these are usually far worse at night than in the day and we are always happy to administer Calpol or other necessary medicines if it means the children can remain in school. We will always contact you if your child is too poorly to be here. As much as we do not want them to miss any school, we do not want them to be upset and uncomfortable either.

If your child has been absent due to ill health then I would ask that you consider very carefully the need for any further absences in school time such as holidays. Holidays are very rarely authorized and if your child’s attendance has already been impacted by illness then a holiday may result in their attendance falling below the threshold of 95%. Parents of any children who are already below 95% will receive a message so you are aware. If your child is below 90%, which is regarded as ‘persistent absence’ by DFE then you will receive a letter. If you have any concerns or questions about attendance then please do not hesitate to contact me.

Reading Raffle
Well done to all those children who have been ensuring they are in the reading raffle each week. This was a particularly good week for Class 1 who had more children entered than ever before. I cannot stress how important reading with your child is, even more so in their first few years at school when they need to practice the phonics and decoding skills they are taught at this stage!

Extra-Curricular Clubs
Next week will be our last week of extra-curricular activities. A new timetable with new activities to choose from will be sent home in the new term with a view to the clubs starting from January 14th.

Panto – Snow White
You will see on Parentmail that Mrs Gallagher has sent a notification asking for permission for our visit to the Forum 28 to watch this year’s pantomime. The tickets have been bought by The Friends but there will be a minimal cost of £4 for the coach journey there and back. We would like to confirm with the theatre how many seats we will require. We have reserved 110 tickets so, once we have a definite number of staff and children, they may be some tickets left for parents to purchase if you’d like to join us that day. If you are interested, we will use Parentmail to send a message once all parents have confirmed their child’s attendance.

School Dinners
We are having some difficulty with our younger pupils at lunch time. They are either refusing to eat the meal choices that have been selected for them or they are eating very little. We are sent the number of meals that are ordered and we have to explain to the children that they cannot have something else as that would mean they were eating another child’s lunch. Please can you talk to your child about what meals they do and do not like on the current menu and ensure that they are ordered a meal they will eat. This will prevent tears, hungry children and unnecessary food waste.

Step Trackers
We have been very frustrated with the step trackers purchased. A number have not worked as they should have or had faulty straps. We have contacted the supplier and they are issuing us with a refund. Our intention is to source an alternative which will hopefully be more robust. In the meantime, we will persevere with the trackers that do work but we expect to have new replacements within a week or so. Thank you for your patience.

Mrs Lawson
Mrs Lawson is to have an operation on her foot during the Christmas break. The operation requires an 8-12 recovery period. This means that we will be appointing a supply teacher to cover that class for the duration of Mrs Lawson’s absence. Mrs Dalziel and Mrs Jarvis will continue to work in that class with support from Miss Jackson and Ms Taylor and together these adults make a very strong team so I have no doubt that the person who takes on the temporary role of class teacher will be very well supported and the provision will continue to be outstanding.

I will be moving into The Otters as class teacher from January to replace Miss Whyte. Mrs Elliott will become full time in Year 4/5/6 and we will be appointing a part time teacher who will teach The Otters (Class 2) in the afternoons. In order to find the best person possible, rather than rushing the process, I will be conducting the recruitment between now and January with a view to the successful candidate taking up their post after February half term. This will mean that there will be a temporary class teacher in Class 2 working alongside me from January until then. If you have any questions or concerns then please feel free to come and see me.

Playdale
You may have noticed that Playdale have started work on preparing the ground for our climbing frame and tyre trail. The installation may take a couple of weeks. I do not expect there to be any major disruption to parking for parents or our residents but I apologize in advance if this is the case. Please do contact us if you have any difficulties.

End of Term Productions
Class 1 and Class 2 will be performing The Baubles and Class 3 and Class 4 will deliver their version of William Shakespeare’s play, The Tempest. You may remember that we learnt some of the songs for Ulverston Voices earlier in the year.

There will be three performances (please see dates on reverse) and 70 tickets available for each performance. With 66 families in our school, this should mean that each family can have up to 3 tickets. This year we will be asking for a £1 donation for each ticket requested. In previous years we have asked for donations in a bucket but the amount received last year only covered a quarter of what the overall cost is to school. We have to purchase the plays, a license for each performance, hire the stage lights and then buy resources for props etc. Tickets will become available soon through Parentmail. We hope you understand and will continue to support us.
