September 6th Newsletter

Welcome

Welcome back everybody to the start of the Autumn Term and a new academic year.  It is wonderful to see the children looking so smart in their uniforms.  I would like to give a special welcome to our 9 gorgeous new Reception pupils who have settled amazingly well and also to Dylan and Darcie.  Dylan has joined Year 1 and Darcie is a new member of Year 4.  They are both welcome additions to their class.

Swimming

This term’s swimming sessions begin on Monday 9th September and the parents of those pupils attending will have received a notification through Parentmail.  We will be taking Mr Procter’s English group this term which includes all the Year 6 pupils and five Year 5 pupils.  Miss Shepherd’s group will go swimming in January.

The children will need a towel, swimsuit and goggles if required.  The cost will remain at £3 per session.

Students

We have been approached by the University of Cumbria who have asked if we would host a group of post graduate students on their School Embedded Learning Practice.  This involves the students visiting our school for two days each week throughout this term and observing teaching and learning in order to relate what they are currently studying to everyday practice.  We were thrilled to be asked as we are always keen to have a role in the development of the future teaching workforce especially when we are able to benefit from the additional adult support during such a busy term.  There will be 9 students visiting each Wednesday and Thursday.

Extra-Curricular Clubs

Extra-curricular clubs will begin the week commencing 16th September.  I have sent out with this newsletter a timetable of the clubs available.  Please keep this to refer to.  We believe this to be an excellent timetable offering a wide range of activities, especially for such a small school.  You will notice though that some clubs have a limited number of places which is necessary to ensure adequate supervision.  If your child would like to attend a club and there are limited places, then you must book on quickly to secure a place as they will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.  The booking form will become available through Parentmail on Tuesday evening.

Tuck Shop

We will be continuing with our every Friday break time.  He children can purchase a biscuit for 10p or a small packet of crisps or cake for 20p.

Residential Trip – Edinburgh

I will be meeting with a representative from Fussell’s Travel next week to discuss an itinerary for our 2020 residential school trip.  It seems early to be thinking of trips next summer but we need to book the accommodation to secure our preferred dates and the number of places required.  Following the meeting, Mrs Brettle will send information and details of the deposit required.  We are planning at this point for the trip to be available initially to years 4, 5 and 6 with any remaining spaces being offered to Year 3 pupils.
